Dr. Peters is the vice president, chief medical officer (CMO), and chief medical information officer (CMIO) at Sheppard Pratt. He earned his MD at Penn State College of Medicine and completed his residency in general psychiatry and fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Brown University. In addition to his roles at Sheppard Pratt, Dr. Peters is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Prior to joining Sheppard Pratt, Dr. Peters served as inpatient medical director at Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital and assistant CMIO for Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dr. Peters’ clinical expertise spans electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), child and adolescent psychiatry, medical informatics, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). He has presented both nationally and internally on topics including health information technology, systems of care, and the impact of the pandemic on youth development.
Dr. Peters is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA). He has served as the chair for AACAP’s Committee for Health Information Technology since 2018 and has been a representative for the AACAP’s Committee on Healthcare Access and Economics since 2009. He was also selected as Chair of AACAP’s Resource Group on Artificial Intelligence in 2024. Dr. Peters served as the Consulting Editor for Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinics of North America from 2017-2021.
