Stefanie Alexander, MD, PhD, is an inpatient psychiatrist at Sheppard Pratt’s Towson campus. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Canisius College, followed by a 2-year post-baccalaureate fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. She completed her medical degree and a Doctorate of Philosophy in integrative molecular and biomedical sciences from Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Alexander completed her adult psychiatry residency program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She has extensive research experience with a variety of institutions including National Institutes of Health, Roswell Park Cancer Institutes, Baylor College of Medicine, and Vanderbilt University. Dr. Alexander’s current research interests include mindfulness, meditation, and yoga in psychiatric conditions and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her PhD research focused on discovering new treatments for osteogenesis imperfecta. She has also done research in breast cancer, Sjogren’s syndrome, and more. She is widely published in her field. Dr. Alexander is a member of a number of professional organizations including the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association. She has also won a number of awards for her academic work. Dr. Alexander has a strong personal yoga and meditation practice, and she is professionally trained in mindfulness facilitation.
