Mohammed Akbar, MD is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist at Sheppard Pratt. He earned his MD at Windsor University School of Medicine. Dr. Akbar completed his psychiatry residency at Oklahoma State University/Griffin Memorial Hospital, and completed his child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Maryland. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and the American Association of Physician Leadership. Dr Akbar volunteers his time with Imamia Medics International as well as The Shepard Clinic to aid international, regional, and underserved communities in Baltimore. He has particular interest in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder, international and refugee mental health, first episode psychosis, and community mental health. Dr Akbar has completed a fellowship in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy with Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis, and has extensive training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and trauma-focused therapy.
