Mental and behavioral health is highly complex, making generic treatment inadequate. Just like a diagnosis of breast cancer or leukemia, each mental illness calls for very different treatments. Each requires highly personalized approaches, with dedicated teams of providers individualizing the treatment plan to help every person succeed. For some, mental health challenges are further compounded by poverty, violence, trauma, and the lack of adequate food, housing, employment, and social support, all of which must be taken into consideration. Small but impactful changes early in a child’s life can change their trajectory.
Sheppard Pratt is distinctive in treating patients with a team of highly specialized providers, all trained in addressing unique diagnoses, such as depression, eating disorders, or anxiety. These physicians, nurses, social workers, teachers, and others have devoted their lives and careers to understanding and treating individual mental health issues. No other organization in the nation has the depth, breadth, and scope of programs to treat every age and every complex mental health issue.
While we have 5,000 dedicated team members, we are only able to meet a fraction of the demand. To that end, we have recently opened a new state-of-the-art, 50-acre hospital campus in the capital region. Our goal is to expand our programs to meet the vast unmet need.
