Harsh K. Trivedi, M.D., M.B.A., president and CEO of Sheppard Pratt Health System, was elected to the American Hospital Association (AHA) Board of Trustees. Trivedi is one of seven new members, and he will serve a three-year term beginning January 1, 2019.
Since July 2016, Trivedi has led Sheppard Pratt, the largest private, non-profit provider of mental health, substance use, special education, developmental disability, and social services in the country. He is only the sixth president and CEO in its more than 125 years. Prior to Sheppard Pratt, Trivedi served as CEO of Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital and vice chair for clinical affairs in the Vanderbilt University Department of Psychiatry.
“We are proud to have Dr. Trivedi represent our health system on the AHA Board of Trustees,” said Joshua Kakel, Chairman of the Sheppard Pratt Health System Board of Trustees. “He is a mission-focused, visionary leader with a keen understanding of where health care is heading and the ability to move forward effectively. As a systems thinker and as an experienced advocate, Dr. Trivedi is meeting today’s health care challenges head on and working to improve health outcomes.”
AHA is the premier national organization representing hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. The Board of Trustees is the highest policymaking body of the AHA and has ultimate authority for the governance and management of its direction and finances.
Sheppard Pratt is a proud member of the Maryland Hospital Association and the American Hospital Association.
“I am honored to serve on the AHA Board of Trustees as we work to advance the health of individuals and communities across the nation,” said Trivedi. “I firmly believe that our best solutions come from the input of many. Together, we can identify solutions to meet the needs of our diverse hospitals and health systems, as well as the unique needs of those we serve."
Trivedi currently chairs the Council on Healthcare Systems and Financing for the American Psychiatric Association, serves on the Executive Committee of the Maryland Hospital Association, and serves on the board of the National Association for Behavioral Healthcare. He also represents the field of psychiatry in the American Medical Association House of Delegates and is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors. Trivedi is active within his community and has served on a number of boards.
A graduate of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Trivedi completed his general psychiatry residency at the Zucker Hillside Hospital/Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
