Three nurses from Sheppard Pratt Health System are being honored by Baltimore Magazine as 2016 Top Nurses in the greater Baltimore area in the categories of: Neurology/Psychology/Behavioral Health, School and Pediatrics: Non-Neonatal.
Hundreds of nominations were analyzed by a panel of registered nurse advisors, and 55 were chosen as winners. Among them include:
Kathy Daddario, TMS RN coordinator, Sheppard Pratt (Towson)
Winner category: Neurology/Psychology/Behavioral Health
Kathy has degrees in mass communications and nursing from Towson University, and found her calling in mental health care. She’s been with the health system for nearly two decades, beginning in geriatric services, eventually finding her place with The Retreat at Sheppard Pratt, and now runs the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Program since it began in 2009.
“My current position as the TMS Nurse Coordinator has been a wonderful experience. It’s allowed me to grow and do what I love, which is to educate patients and families about TMS, a treatment for depression involving brain stimulation, and provide treatment in a supportive, caring environment. The staff at Sheppard Pratt has shaped me into the nurse I am today, and for that, I am truly grateful.”
Monique Bowie, Day School Nurse, The Jefferson School, part of the Sheppard Pratt Health System
Winner category: School
Monique attended Global Health, a private nursing school in Virginia before starting to work at The Jefferson School part time, while spending most of her hours in another care setting.
“After hearing several students tell me that I’ve made a difference in their lives…and after seeing a resident go from not caring to looking toward a positive future, I decided to go full time!” she said.
Monique, who has been with the school for nearly two years, has been described by her superiors as one of those rare individuals that people just want to be around: smart, funny, and always helpful.
Lisa Catalano, Charge Nurse, Adolescent Unit, Sheppard Pratt (Ellicott City)
Winner category: Pediatrics: Non-Neonatal
Lisa graduated from Salisbury University with a degree in nursing and a minor in Psychology. After developing a love for pediatrics, she set a goal of working in behavioral health, and has been with our Adolescent Unit in Ellicott City for three years.
“[Working on the Adolescent Unit is] the perfect blend of pediatrics and behavioral health,” said Lisa. Each day, you never know what you’re going to get; I am a big people person so my favorite part is the interaction with patients!” she said.
The group will be honored at an event in April and featured in the magazine in May. For more information on the awards, visit bmag.co/nurses.
