Mental Health Emergency/Psychiatric Emergency
If a person is experiencing a mental health crisis, and becomes an imminent threat to themselves or others, it becomes a mental health emergency. A mental health emergency may involve:
- Active assaults
- Having a plan, means, and imminent time frame to engage in a suicide attempt or engaging in a suicide attempt
- Damaging property
- Highly erratic behavior that is unable to be controlled
When a person is having a mental health emergency, it is imperative to call 911 or take the person to the nearest emergency room so they can get professional help as soon as possible.
