ESOL, ESL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

An English class taught to people whose first language is not English, but who live in a country where English is the official language, so that they can communicate effectively in their daily life. ESOL/ESL is English as a Second Language. A person taking the class is an ELL – English Language Learner.
