How long have you worked at Sheppard Pratt?
I have worked at Sheppard Pratt for just over two years.
What is your role at Sheppard Pratt?
I am the program director of the Adult Residential Treatment Center (RTC) in Frederick. I lead the daily operations of the residential and day programs. I am hands–on with each and every one of our clients and their parents or loved ones to ensure that they receive the best care and treatment for their mental health.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Every day I spend at least 10 minutes with the staff to see how they are feeling before our day starts. I feel it’s important to make sure that the staff are in a good place, which allows them to focus on the needs of the clients and be able to give them the best care.
At times, I help serve breakfast but always review the daily roster for the day and hit the ground running. This often includes client outings, setting up activities for the clients, and often meeting with the clients one on one. I facilitate weekly team meetings, family interventions, and client-centered meetings.
Everything is always done to contribute to the services we render to the clients, focusing on their needs and helping them understand and identify more about their mental health, and at the same time, having fun and embracing life.
What do you enjoy most about working at Sheppard Pratt?
I enjoy seeing our clients smile, have fun, and be a part of the community. It makes me happy when our clients can achieve the goals they set for themselves.
What are some traits that define you?
I am an upbeat, caring person; I’m a whole experience! I’m a true New Yorker and bring that spunky vibe with me everywhere I go.
What is your biggest source of inspiration?
Having a great leader. I have had a few in my life that always believed in me, especially when I doubted myself. I am a true believer that at times, others can see what you may not.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Being from New York, I love to visit my friends there, and I love to go shopping.
What is something you have done outside of work that you are proud of?
I often help people in need of drug treatment get into programs; I was a certified drug/alcohol treatment supervisor for more than 30 years in New York.
