Technology For Older Adults: How It Can Help & How It Can Harm

From robots to surveillance devices, practitioners working with older adults are increasingly faced with evaluating the need for and the ethical use of technology to support clients at home and in a wide variety of care settings. This session will evaluate a range of devices available for use with older people and we will discuss the risks, benefits, legal and ethical implications for use in practice.

Learning Objectives

After this lecture, attendees will be able to:

  1. Identify potential benefits of gerontechnology for older adults.
  2. Identify potential harms of technology for older adults.
  3. Evaluate the ethical use of gerontechnology in practice with older adults.
