Join Kristen Beall, LCSW-C, ICGC-I, CAC-AD, clinical manager, Maryland Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling, and Deborah Perry, LCPC, NCC, MAC, private practice, for a free workshop series on gambling disorder.
Overview
As gambling becomes increasingly accessible throughout Maryland, more individuals are likely to suffer from the harms of gambling disorder. This lecture will discuss how healthcare professionals can identify the at-risk gambler, what screening tools are available, and how to intervene effectively. Given the impact gambling has on family, community, and healthcare systems, it is essential that healthcare professionals improve their ability to recognize and treat gambling related problems.
This two-part training is available for all professionals working with those in treatment for behavioral health disorders.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
- Recognize the history of gambling disorder, current DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, specifiers and severity, and understand the scope of gambling in Maryland.
- Apply evidenced-based gambling screening tools and assessment tips for integrating gambling conversations into your practice, using brief interventions and ASAM criteria for placement to treatment.
- Identify the intersections of other behavioral health disorders, medical conditions, and the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) related to gambling disorder.
