Overview

Suicide is a major public health problem affecting people of all ages and cultural groups. Despite suicide rates decreasing among white Americans over the past few years, there have been concerning increases in marginalized and minoritized populations, particularly youth. Several interventions have shown promise for preventing suicidal behavior, but the majority of people who die by suicide were not identified as being at risk despite presenting for evaluations in multiple clinical settings.

Join us for a fireside chat featuring leading experts in suicide prevention research. During this free, virtual event, Drs. Clarke, Alvarez, Adair, Grzenda, and O’Keefe will review how to address suicide risk and engage in suicide prevention strategies using a culturally sensitive approach.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:

  1. Describe the trends in suicide risk in diverse cultures.
  2. Recognize the need to apply culturally appropriate methods of identification and managing suicide risk in diverse cultures.
  3. Outline intervention and strategies to prevent suicide.
