Presented by: Heather Eshleman, MPH, Prevention Manager, and Kristen Beall, LCSW-C, ICGC-I, CAC-AD, Clinical Manager, Maryland Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling.
Overview:
Over the last 15 years, gambling activities have expanded in Maryland and across the country. The most recent expansion legalized mobile sports betting and sports betting at casinos.
These evolving laws around gambling may lead to an increase in the number of people seeking help for addiction. The impact of a gambling addiction can ripple outwards from the individual affected, to friends, family, and co-workers.
This workshop will review the most common types of gambling in Maryland, tools to screen for disordered gambling, and resources for help available to Maryland residents.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
- Define gambling and identify the most common types of gambling in Maryland
- Discuss the hot topics concerning gambling in Maryland including populations at greater risk, youth gaming to gambling, and sports betting.
- Recognize and compare co-morbidities that are likely to occur with disordered gambling.
- Integrate screening and assessment tools into their current practice.
- Describe and use the resources for problem gambling help.
