Grand Rounds: What We Know And Do Not Know About Suicide Prevention: 2024 Update

Join Faith Dickerson, PhD, MPH, Senior Psychologist, Sheppard Pratt and Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry, University of Maryland School of Medicine and at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine for this free Grand Rounds Lecture.
Overview:

Suicide is a leading cause of death among young people in the United States. And, the rate of death by suicide in the overall U.S. population has been increasing – unlike in most other places in the world.

Suicide affects all age groups and ethnicities and is a source of pain and suffering throughout our society.  It is essential that clinicians have an understanding of strategies that can reduce suicide in order to tackle this epidemic. During this presentation, renowned suicide researcher Faith Dickerson, PhD, MPH will review the current evidence about suicide prevention strategies which have been shown to be effective.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:

  1. Identify 3 strategies that have been shown to help prevent suicide.
  2. Discuss 3 strategies for which there is not sufficient evidence to say whether or not that they are effective in helping to prevent suicide.
  3. Describe 3 things that they can do to help address the problem of suicide.
