This course is approved for 1.0 Category I Ethics Credits.

Overview:

As clinical trials advance in the United States, the outlook for approval of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy as a prescription treatment for some psychiatric conditions is promising. In this talk, clinicians seeking innovative approaches to treat mood, anxiety, and substance use disorders will gain insight into the fundamental aspects of psychedelic-assisted therapy and the current state of research. We will equip clinicians with information to help them consider how psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy might be useful in their future patient care. We will also highlight key ethical considerations in this evolving field.

Learning Objectives:
  • Describe the history of the use of psychedelic substances for clinical treatments and research.
  • Identify hypothesized mechanisms of psychedelic-assisted interventions for mental health conditions.
  • Define key ethical considerations regarding use of psychedelics in mental healthcare.
