What to Expect in Individual Therapy
Individual psychotherapy sessions are based on your unique treatment plan, and are usually scheduled several times a week. These sessions may be with your attending psychiatrist, psychologist, or individual therapist who may be targeting a specific behavior or goal that is important to your care.
During your sessions, a doctor evaluates you, leads your medication management, and ensures you are receiving the best possible care for your needs.
Our doctors and specialized clinicians at The Retreat have experience with:
Biomedical Therapy and Psychopharmacology
Biomedical therapy uses physiological treatments to help improve mental health disorders. Therapies include psychopharmacology, which is prescribing medications to treat behavioral health issues. We may also use neurostimulation procedures, such as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Our goal is to improve the physical symptoms of the mental disorder so you can focus on your recovery.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic therapy is a form of psychotherapy where your clinician encourages you to speak freely about the experiences that contribute to your difficulties. Our goal is to help you better understand your needs, talents, and abilities, and provide you with support in managing your stressors and relationships.
Most importantly, therapy is a time for you to explore and elaborate on the reasons for coming to The Retreat, as well as understand how you can improve your life. We use various treatment methods and therapeutic points of view to help you learn more about your thought processes and actions. Learning more about yourself will help you achieve the maximum benefit from your stay.
